Welcome to Talmadge

Another mesa-type neighborhood perched above Mission Gorge just east of Kensington, Talmadge offers wide, tree-lined streets, eclectic architecture and a rich history. The entrance to the community is set off by the Talmadge Gates, located at the southern and eastern boundaries.

Founded in 1925 by real estate developers Roy and Guy Lichty and funded with capital from Joe Shenick of United Artists Corporation, Talmadge was named for Shenick’s wife and sisters,  Norma, Natalie and Constance Talmadge. The three sisters were silent film stars and at the time of the 1926 Talmadge dedication, at the pinnacle of their careers.

Talmadge doesn’t have the central “downtown” area that many of the other popular metro area neighborhoods have, but it boasts a strong sense of community, and pride in the neighborhood is evident. For a combination of community, location, and bang for your buck, it’s hard to beat Talmadge.
